| Tips for
Dyeable Bridal Shoes: |
Dyeable shoes are great for
weddings because the fabric can be tinted to match your gown
and your bridesmaid dresses beautifully. But dyeing is a
delicate business. Here's what you need to know to get the
best results.
What is a Dyeable Shoe?
Dyeable shoes are made from white satin or silk that has
been coated with a special solution designed to allow the
fabric to accept dye. This coating is invisible to you and
does not affect the look or feel of the fabric so the shoes
may be worn as-is in white if you prefer. The shoes may have
rhinestones, crystals and other details that will not be
affected by the coloring process.

- Dye is water soluble, so be sure to have your newly
dyed shoes treated with water repellent. This won't
completely prevent staining and running if your shoes are
exposed to moisture or water, but it will help control it.
- Ask the dye specialist to provide a swatch of the dyed
color for your approval before you agree to applying it to
your shoes.
- Be aware that dyed items can change hue under indoor
or bright outdoor light. Be sure to ask about this, and
test the color under the light you'll be exposed to on the
big day.
- If you are dyeing several pairs of bridesmaid shoes
it's best to dye them all at the same time and place for
uniformity.
- Give yourself plenty of time to have your shoes dyed -
many master dyers will ask that you allow 2-3 weeks for
the process.
- Don't expect an absolute perfect match. Because of the
differences in fabrics there's a very good chance that
there will be some variation between the dress and the
shoe. However, it's much like how a real pearl will never
match a white gown exactly - but it still looks absolutely
beautiful.
